A little San Francisco Getaway

Last fall we had a weekend getaway to one of our favorite places. We arrived in the evening, stopped at our airbnb in the adorable Pacific Heights neighborhood and walked straight to Delfina for a little midnight snack because when you’re on vacation carbs don’t count.

We woke up extra early Saturday morning, grabbed an uber and headed straight to our favorite breakfast spot in all of the land, Plow (get there before they open to get a good spot in line. They fill up FAST!) Seriously, if you haven’t been you are really missing out. Get the buttermilk biscuit and honey butter (my mouth is literally watering just typing this).

After we filled our stomachs to the brim we walked it off by wandering our favorite neighborhoods. We first stopped by Big Daddy’s Antiques, one of our favorite spots to browse really cool antique pieces. They have a store in LA too!

A few of our favorite spots in SF:

Plow (always our first stop)

Sutro Baths

Legion of Honor Museum

Hops & Hominy – GET the gin and jam. Don’t ask, just do it.

NOPA – be sure to make a reservation for brunch!

Smitten Ice Cream, of course. And that entire area.

Jane – the cutest coffee shop

also, this made me laugh but it’s pretty true.

and really so much more. Every neighborhood in the city has so much charm!

I had a few shoots while we were in the city which led us to some really great spots that we hadn’t explored before. First up was the gorgeous Cavallo Point which has the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The next day we headed to The Presidio, a magical, magical tree lined spot in the middle of the city. It may be my new favorite spot there. And Adam is the best stand in light tester model.

Later that evening we drove to THE most incredible place ever, Mount Tamalpais to photograph some of our dear friends. The views are INSANE and the fog that rolls in and the light and the hills and all of the things. Basically, we couldn’t stop snapping away here.

A big thanks to our talented friend, Gladys for grabbing the camera after their shoot and snapping a few shots of the two of us.

Korakia Palm Springs

After our Joshua Tree adventures were done we decided to spend another night in the desert and make our way to Palm Springs. We arrived in PS and went straight to Arrive (see what I did there?) to check out this newer hotel and have some lunch. The restaurant was great, delicious drinks and lunch and from what we saw it looks like a gorgeous hotel!

korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel001 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel002After lunch we made our way to our hotel, Korakia. I’ve been dying to stay at this gorgeous Moroccan/Mediterranean hotel for quite some time and was so excited to finally see it in all of it’s glory. The grounds are gorgeous, one side is the Moroccan side and one is the Mediterranean. Each has their own pool, which are open 24 hours and while it was hotter than hell there and the pool water was more like bath water we still enjoyed it. They have a huge bocce ball court, a fire pit, and do movie nights. It’s such a fun hotel and I’m looking forward to going back when it’s a little cooler to enjoy those outdoor activities. korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel003 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel004 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel005 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel006 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel007 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel008 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel009 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel010 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel011 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel012 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel013 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel014 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel015 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel016 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel017 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel018 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel019 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel020 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel021 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel022 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel023 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel024 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel025 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel026 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel027 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel028 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel029 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel030 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel031 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel032 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel033 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel034 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel035 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel036 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel037 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel038 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel039 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel040 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel041 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel042 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel043 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel044 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel045 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel046 korakia-palm-springs-megan-welker-photography-for-bravwel047We bid adieu to Palm Springs with a stop at The Pink Door, of course. Love in the desert

Keeping up with our desert theme for the week I’m sharing a little session our dear friend Ala did for us while we were in Joshua Tree. After Amber and Louie had to leave to head back home (in case you missed their sweet session on my photography blog, you can view that here) Ala came out and I got to take some spur of the moment maternity photos for her (that you can see here). In return she woke up at the butt crack of dawn with us and we all ventured out to the National Park for a sunrise session while it was still somewhat cool out (a cool 89 degrees at 6am).

She snapped these after I took a few of her the night before. This is my truest form really, hardly any makeup, my hair up in a topknot.

The Joshua Tree House

Have you been on the internet/social media lately? Then you’ve seen this house appropriately called The Joshua Tree House. Every single blogger has been there and has been seen swinging in those amazing hanging chairs. My friend Amber was wanting to do her anniversary session out in Joshua Tree and so of course I mentioned this beautiful rental. She loved it, I loved it, so it was a done deal and we made some beautiful images inside the house and at the National Park nearby. You can see those here if ya want. Be sure to head to the bottom of the post for a few recommendations on where to stay and what to do in Joshua Tree.

-This place, of course! The owners of The Joshua Tree House just finished renovating another house nearby and it looks amazing! Be sure to check out The Casita.

This Cabin looks adorable!

-What’s cooler than staying in a Dome in the desert? Not much!

-The more hipster the better, right? This place looks way cute!

Where to eat/What to do (these can go together because Joshua Tree is small, like real, real small.

-The Corner Cafe. This is a tiny little cafe on the corner of town. Pretty standard breakfast here 😉

Natural Sisters Cafe. Vegan friendly and really delicious vegan carrot cake, like so good guys.

Pie for the People. Pizza. Can’t really go wrong here.

The Joshua Tree Saloon For your steak loving heart. And burgers, and onion rings.

-Head out to Joshua Tree National Park. The park is so gorgeous and SO big. Go on hikes, go bouldering, don’t do anything physical and just stand and look at it in all it’s glory. Whatever you do, just go and see it because it’s so worth it.

-If you’re feeling adventurous, head out to Salvation Mountain. A must see!

Our Wedding / Bride Style

We last shared Adams take on Groom Style and today I wanted to share all that went into my favorite outfit I’ve ever worn! I wrote a post on finding the dress here but didn’t spill ALL the deets on my actual dress. I did confess about buying my dress before we were actually engaged because I was a crazy person but it all worked out.

157_Brumley & Wells_fine_art_film_photography_California_destination_weding_Figueroa_Farm_HouseThis dress. I worried about it for months while it was being made. Worried I would hate it once I actually got it and had it in my hands but of course, it was the opposite. I loved it so hard. I had it altered to fit me a bit better (I still wish it would have been tighter in the bodice but whatever) and added the Juliette sleeves to make it a bit more romantic. Those tiny little strands of fabric were my absolute favorite part of the dress. I ended up tucking them in at the end of the night so I could dance because while they looked really really pretty, they totally made me have t rex arms and wrapping my arms around Adams neck to sway to our first dance just wasn’t going to happen with them on.

028_Brumley & Wells_fine_art_film_photography_California_destination_weding_Figueroa_Farm_House 175_Brumley & Wells_fine_art_film_photography_California_destination_weding_Figueroa_Farm_HouseThe dress on it’s own was stunning by adding the belt really made it pop and pulled the attention to my waist (which I’m real into since it’s the only part of me that is “tiny”) The belt was definitely more than I was planning on spending on a damn belt but #yolo when it’s your wedding, right?

186_Brumley & Wells_fine_art_film_photography_California_destination_weding_Figueroa_Farm_House 199_Brumley & Wells_fine_art_film_photography_California_destination_weding_Figueroa_Farm_House 180_Brumley & Wells_fine_art_film_photography_California_destination_weding_Figueroa_Farm_HouseThese shoes were a whim of a purchase. I was searching for a wedge since our wedding was mostly outside in dirt/grass but then I saw these and they were so affordable and comfortable and pretty. Plus that pop of blue on the bottom was just too cute to pass up!

I’m already sad that it’s all over and this stunning dress is just hanging in my closet but I guess I’ll keep it around for my daughter to wear or tear apart…
